Lagos, – Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have said that the delay by Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode to form his cabinet, was for the general good of the state.
The lawmakers said that the delay had not affected governance and projects executions across the state, and that the Governor was taking his time to chose the best for the state.
According to law makers who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) in Lagos on Sunday , the governor is being very careful in the selection of individuals to manage the affairs of the state .
Mr Adebisi Yuppie (APC-Alimosho 1) said that the delay had not in any way affected the governance and ongoing projects handed over to Ambode by his predecessor.
“Have you not seen work going on ? , I just pray all other states are like Lagos State; our civil servants are highly educated, they are productive and have been exposed to a lot of trainings.
” As I talk to you, there is continuity in the state, Ayobo/Ipaja Road is being constructed; before the departure of the last government, the project was stopped, but work is now going on .
” A new government has to be careful; you just don’t employ people whose capacity you don’t know; you have to get security reports on them,” he said.
On the people’s expectations that the governor was going to immediately swing into action, Yusuff said, “the same people will complain if he employed the wrong hands in his cabinet.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560”]
While soliciting for patience, he stressed that Lagos was known for integrity and hard work, which should be sustained.
In his remarkss,Mr Rotimi Olowo (APC-Somolu 1) said the governor was working hard to create wealth and bring foreign investment to Lagos.
“He (governor) has said that he was going to create some agencies and merge others to reduce cost.
” There is a reason for us to cut cost, especially the recurrent cost, so that much money will be available for capital expenditure,” he added.
According to Olowo, the state does not deserve incompetent commissioners who will not know what to do after their appointments.
NAN reports that some individuals, especially within the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had expressed concern over the delay in forming the cabinet.
According to these critics, while President Muhammadu Buhari’s delay in announcing his cabinet can be justified because of the leadership crisis in the National Assembly, Ambode has no excuse.
They premised their argument on the fact that the state’s 8th Assembly was inaugurated since on June 8. (NAN)
