LAGOS – Some residents in Lagos on Monday urged the incoming administration to revive the famous “Museum Kitchen’’, at the National Museum, Lagos, to boost tourism activities in the state.
The residents told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in separate interviews that the revival was long overdue as the kitchen was now a shadow of its past glory.
Mr Kolawole Adeola, a Lagos Island resident, said that in the past, the kitchen used to be an entertainment hub which attracted fun lovers to the National Museum.
“In the past, activities at the Museum Kitchen brought patronage to the National Museum.
“Whenever people came to the Museum Kitchen, they went into the National Museum to see the historical images and artifacts there.
“The museum must be revived in order to bring back its lost glory and re-ignite entertainment once again in the state.
“People came from all over the state after closing from their offices to relax there,” Adeola said.
Mrs Shade Animasahun, a tourist, said that she was one of those who enjoyed the activities at the museum kitchen in 1978.
Animasahun said that her husband was also an ardent customer of the kitchen as there were shows there all through the week, including weekends.
“All African delicacies were prepared there every day.
“My husband took me there almost every weekend before we travelled abroad but when we returned from the United States, those activities were no longer in place.
“It is so painful because then, most musicians and life bands came to perform,’’ Animasahun said.
Mr Isiaka Adelodun, an engineer, told NAN that the kitchen needed to be renovated to attract fun seekers and bring back its long lost glory.

He said that the kitchen served sumptuous traditional Nigerian dishes with Efik dishes being their specialty.
“People took orders for takeaway packs for both individuals and families; cookery courses were also offered,’’ he said.
Adelodun urged the authorities in charge to quickly revive the kitchen to boost patronage at the national museum. (NAN)
