Lagos – Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos state on Thursday released N582.195 million for the payment of entitlements to 109 retirees in March.
A statement by Mrs Ajoke Lawal, spokesperson of the Lagos State Pension Commission (LASPEC), said 5,956 retirees had benefitted from the money since the beginning of Ambode’s administration.
According to her, the retirees are from the State Civil Service, Local Government, State Universal Basic Education Board, Teachers Establishment Pensions Office and other government parastatals.
The Director-General of the commission, Mrs Falashade Onanuga, in the statement, congratulated the retirees, saying that the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) would be 10 years in Lagos State by April.
She said some activities had been lined up to commemorate a decade of the CPS in the state.
The statement said the Assistant Director, Technical, Mr Olawale Otun, took the retirees through the benefit options available under the scheme.
According to the statement, the retirees were full of joy and praises for Ambode for the choice of staff at the commission, describing them as respectful, friendly, professional and full of empathy.
