LAGOS- The Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Transportation, has suspended the e-call-up system for truck movement along the Lekki-Epe corridor.
This is contained in a statement on Tuesday by the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that enforcement of the e-call-up system for trucks along the Lekki-Epe corridor was initially set to begin on March 1.
The suspension followed a meeting between the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation and union leaders.
Unions present included the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN).
Also were Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), and Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD), a branch of NUPENG.
“At the meeting, held at the Ministry of Transportation’s conference room, the ministry agreed to the union leaders’ request to suspend enforcement of the e-call-up system.
“This will allow further engagement with their members,” the statement read in part.
The union leaders pledged to ensure parking compliance among their members during the engagement period. The ministry, however, will enforce regulations if this commitment is breached.
“All parties acknowledged the e-call-up system as the best solution for managing truck movement along the Lekki-Epe corridor,” the ministry added.
The meeting was attended by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the Permanent Secretary, Mr Olawale Musa, and leaders of NUPENG, IPMAN, NARTO, and PTD. (NAN)
