The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Lagos Chapter, has commended its Grand Patron, Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for successfully hosting the maiden edition of Aisha Buhari Cup in Lagos.
Lagos SWAN Chairman, Debo Oshundun, in a statement on Wednesday, stated that Sanwo-Olu deserved all the accolades for the wonderful ambience and the high standard set at the just concluded championship.
The Lagos SWAN chairman said that Lagos surprised Africa and the rest of the world by hosting a world class event.
“The match venue, Mobolaji Johnson Arena, is one of the best stadia you can find in Africa at the moment.
“The governor and the Lagos State Government have once again shown that they are a model in all sectors with the hosting of the tournament.
“The match venue was made world class at short notice. The countries that participated also had the best of treats in the city of aquatic splendor,” Oshundun said.
He recalled that the governor also accepted the hosting of the senior national team, the Super Eagles FIFA 2022 World Cup qualifying games in Lagos.
“Since assuming office, the governor has been our pillar in Lagos SWAN. We have enjoyed his tremendous support.
“We appreciate him, his aides and the entire Lagos State Sports Commission for all they do to develop sports among our youths.
“It is a fact that the state Sports Commission also organised Summer Camps for Lagos State students from ages 8 to 15 during the long vacation. The students were taught sports skills and robotic learning.
“On this note, we say a big thank you to the governor for giving sports a facelift and also putting the girl child in a special place in his heart,” Oshundun said.
The Lagos SWAN chairman also thanked the Lagos State First Lady, Dr Ibironke Sanwo-Olu, for playing a significant role in the hosting of the tournament tagged: Playing for good in the state.
