Abuja (Sundiata Post) – The Chief Executive Officer (CEO), who also doubles as the Director General (DG), of the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex, Ojo, Alaba, Barr. Vera Ndanusa, has called for a cleaner environment in the complex.
Ndanusa made the call recently in Lagos when she and her team embarked on a facility inspection within and outside the Trade Fair Complex.
She said for business to thrive, the environment must be habitable enough to attract customers, adding that she is not impressed with the current environmental pollution in the premises.
In a statement signed by the Special Assistant to the Trade Fair DG, Barr. Fatima Sonia, Ndanusa said an environment devoid of environmental waste pollution can not be overemphasized especially in this era of climate change.
She noted also that the host community of the Complex is situated in a rising sea topography making it vulnerable to airborne disease.
According to her: “You are aware that Lagos State, because of its topography, is threatened by rising sea levels, and we must continue to take necessary measures to mitigate the threats.
“As an agency, one thing we insist on is that every project executed in the complex must conform to our environmental impact assessment.
“Environment is one of the priority areas of President Bola Tinubu’s administration. He has committed a lot of resources in checkmating environmental pollution as can be seen during COP28 Summit in Dubai the United Emirates”, she said.
Ndanusa further urged the complex occupants to reach out once they see something out of place in the environment, saying that what is most essential is the protection of the protection of everyone.
She added: “We need to take care of our environment by sorting our wastes, which makes it easier for wastes to be managed, put to good use and well recycled”.
Our correspondent reports that the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex is a 350 hectare facility along Lagos-Badagry expressway hosting a number of market traders. The facility was constructed in the 1970s and planned to host an international trade fair.
Ndanusa was however appointed as the new CEO of the Board in October 2023.
