Badagry    –    The Special Adviser to Lagos State Governor on Environment, Mr Babatunde Hunpe, on Monday said the members of the Lagos State House of Assembly were vibrant, well- tutored, educated and seasoned lawmakers.

Hunpe extolled the lawmakers in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Badagry, Lagos against the backdrop that state legislatures were regarded as rubber stamp of the executive arm of government.

According to the special adviser, they do their work diligently before approving any project within the state.

“They take time to check whatever is given to them at the committee level very well before bringing it to general House.

“If they notice anything wrong in any ministry or agency, they will invite the commissioner or head of the ministry for scrutiny.

“If the executive presents any paper that affects any ministry, the head of the ministry will be summoned, the committee in charge will ask questions and at the end of the session, the general House will also query them,” he said.

“This shows that they are not rubber stamp to the executive arm. When a contract is approved by the House, they will follow it up by doing oversight function, they will inspect the project until it is completed and delivered.

“They are performing their duty according to the constitution, so, there is no way you can call them rubber stamp of the executive.’’

Hunpe commended the members for working harmoniously with the state executive for the overall progress and development of the state.
