LAGOS (Sundiata Post) – Renowned Nollywood actress Laide Bakare has been conferred with the prestigious title of Ambassador for Peace by the United Nations International Peace and Governing Council.

The honour was bestowed in recognition of her consistent advocacy for peace, mutual understanding, and global unity.

Reacting to the award, Bakare expressed heartfelt gratitude, saying, “I’m deeply humbled to receive this recognition. I believe that peace is the foundation for progress and prosperity. I’ll continue to work tirelessly towards promoting understanding and cooperation among nations and communities.”

Beyond her peace advocacy, the actress used the moment to call for increased female participation in politics. According to her, true progress can only be achieved when women’s voices are actively represented in decision-making spaces.

“Women make up a significant portion of our population, and their voices deserve to be heard. We need more women in leadership positions to bring diverse perspectives and ideas to the table,” she said.

Bakare, who also serves as the Senior Special Assistant on Entertainment, Arts, Culture, and Tourism to Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, reaffirmed her commitment to spreading peace across more communities.

The Ambassador for Peace honour is awarded to individuals who have significantly contributed to the promotion of peace, tolerance, and mutual respect. Bakare’s unwavering dedication to these ideals has earned her this notable distinction.
