Mangu (Plateau) – Gov. Simon Lalong of Plateau has urged the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the state to be security conscious.Lalong made the call on Wednesday in Mangu when he declared the 2019 batch “C” stream 2, orientation exercise closed.
The governor, who was represented by the State’s Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Victor Lapang , said that the state was relatively peaceful and secure, but that they needed to be security conscious.
He called on them to also shun wayward behaviors that could endanger their lives.He urged them to respect the culture and tradition of their host communities and to avoid indulging in forbidden practices and refrain from engaging in local politics.Lalong also enjoined the corps members to bring about the expected change in their host communities.
He disclosed that the state would continue to ensure that their security and welfare remained of utmost priority. Earlier, the Plateau NYSC State Coordinator,
Ms Caroline Embu, commended the corps members for participating actively in the camp activities.Embu urged them to accept their posting with grace and dignity.She also enjoined the corps members to be instruments of unity in their respective host communities.She warned them against abuse of the NYSC uniform, urging them to wear it with dignity and pride.
The coordinator said the NYSC would sanction any corps member who brought the scheme into disrepute through indecent dressing and abuse of its uniform.She urged them to bring about positive changes in their host communities.
