ABUJA – The police on Monday arraigned a 49-year-old landlord, Peter Audu, in an FCT Area Court, Lugbe, Abuja, for allegedly destroying his tenant’s property over non-payment of house rent.
Audu, of Gosa Primary School Airport Road, Abuja, was arraigned on a two-count charge of criminal force and assault/mischief.
The prosecutor, Lliyau Maji, told the court that one Bola Opesari reported the case at Iddo Police Station on No. 8.
He said that after destroying the complainant’s door and property valued at N59, 000, Audu pursued her to her business centre and inflicted a serious cut on her hand with a cutlass.
He said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 265 and 327 of the Penal Code.
The accused however pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Senior Judge Gambo Garbo granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
He said the sureties must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court, and that the accused should be remanded in Kuje prison if he failed to meet the bail condition.
He adjourned the case till Nov. 27 for hearing (NAN)
