LAGOS (Sundiata Post) – The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, on Sunday said it responded to 126 emergency incidents across the state in September.
The agency’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed this in a statement made available in Lagos.
Oke-Osanyintolu said September was higher than August which recorded 121 incidents.
“The agency saddled with the overall responsibility of coordinating emergencies and disasters in the state attended a total of 126 incidents across the state in the month of September.
“This is compared to 141 in January, 156 in February, 148 in March, 132 April, 147 in May, 126 in June, 123 incidents in July and 121 in August.
“This is total to 1,220 incidents attended so far by the agency in 2024 and a grand total of 7,662 incidents attended by LASEMA between June 1, 2019, and Sept. 30, 2024,” he said.
Oke-Osanyintolu said the 126 emergency incidents attended in the month of September revealed that road accident category ranked highest.
“This is with a record of 52 vehicular incidents, followed by 23 others in second place, with 20 incidents in the truck and tanker category comprising of 18 accidents and two broken down trucks in third place.
“16 medical incidents took the fourth place, 13 fire disaster incidents which comprises of 12 fire outbreaks and one burnt vehicle incident in fifth place, and two building collapse in the sixth place,” he said.
He added that the Local Government Emergency (LGE) Trends revealed that Alimosho ranked highest with 18 out of 126 incidents recorded.
“For the 20 LGE in Lagos State, Alimosho Local Government Area (LGA) ranked highest with 18 out of the 126 incidents recorded in the state during this period.
“This was followed by Ikeja LGA which recorded 16 incidents, Kosofe LGA recorded 14 incidents at third place, Eti-Osa LGA recorded 13 incidents in fourth place.
“Ojo, Oshodi-Isolo, Mushin, and Shomolu recorded seven incidents each at the fifth place, just as Surulere LGA recorded six incidents in the sixth place.
Lagos Island and Apapa LGAs recorded five incidents each in seventh place, while Lagos Mainland and Ajeromi-Ifelodun LGAs both recorded four incidents each to occupy the eight position,” he said.
He added that Ikorodu, Epe and Ibeju-Lekki LGAs recorded three incidents each at the ninth position, with outside Lagos boundary interventions recording two incidents.
“Ifako-Ijaiye and Badagry LGAs both recorded one incident each at 10th position, however, Amuwo Odofin and Agege LGAs recorded no incidents during the period under review,” he said.
Oke-Osanyintolu said that yearly emergency trends in the last six years of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu led administration showed that LASEMA attended to a total of 7,662 incidents. (NAN)
