LAGOS – The Lagos State Government on Thursday said it had increased egg production by 200,000 daily through boosting the capacity of poultry farmers across the state.
Mr Gbolahan Lawal, the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Cooperatives, who was speaking at the 2014 World Food Day celebration in Lagos, said that the increase was achieved by the provision of more inputs to farmers.
The egg marketers and producers were given inputs at the Agric Value Chain Empowerment Programme organised by the State Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives to mark the day.

Lawal said that 754 egg marketers were given 50 crates of eggs each, while 73 poultry farmers received one unit of battery cage, 120 points of lay birds, 20 bags of growers mash, vitamins and antibiotics.
“We have added another 200,000 eggs to what we had two years ago, apart from those commercial farmers; we also have small scale farmers.
“These inputs given to egg producers have enabled us achieve this increase. So, as of today we have 200,000 additional eggs daily from our various farms,’’ the commissioner said.
NAN reports that on Dec. 13, 2013, the Lagos State Government said that it would start producing 150,000 eggs daily.
Lawal said that the government had also provided additional 50,000 bird layers to trainee farmers at the state Agriculture Training Institute in order to increase the production of eggs. (NAN)
