LAGOS – Mr Kunle Owomoyela, a son of the late Orlando Owoh, on Monday urged music marketers to be fair in their dealings with musicians.
Owomoyela, also a highlife musician like his late father, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that many musicians did not get good returns from their marketers.
“When a musician releases an album and gives it out to marketers to market for him, they don’t give back a good return to the musician.
“It has happened to me several times; when I give out my complete album to a marketer, he ends up giving me a token in return but the CD will have sold widely beyond the amount remitted to me.
“I have used different marketers to sell my album and they all ended up exhibiting the same attitude, “ he said. [eap_ad_2] He urged marketers in the entertainment industry to change such attitude and help to project the sector positively.
“It is not inspiring for marketers to be earning more than the original owner of the song.
“There is no way that musicians will not use marketers to market their songs, but that doesn’t mean that they should use the opportunity to exploit us, the musicians.
“It can be so frustrating for the musician not to get something reasonable from of his hard work.
“We are into the business to make profit, not to be exploited by others, “ the highlife musician said.
Owomoyela appreciated the post-humous award given to his late father by the Association of Voice-Over Artistes of Nigeria (AVOA) on Sept. 26.
He said that it showed that his father was still remembered.
“I say a big thank you to the association and I urge them to continue with their good work of training more young voice-over artistes for the industry, “ he said. (NAN) [eap_ad_3]
