Bauchi – Some All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship aspirants in Bauchi on Sunday had to calm their supporters over the delay in commencement of the primary elections in Bauchi.
They told newsmen that they had to plead with their supporters to remain calm as the delay made them (supporters) to become suspicious and agitated.
One of the aspirants, Dr Yakubu Lame, said one of the reasons for the delay was that the APC national committee members for the primaries were yet to arrived the state.
He urged party members to exercise patience to ensure free and fair elections.
Another aspirant, Dr Muhammad Pate, dismissed rumors that the elections were taking place in other local government areas in the absence of the national officers.
Pate said he was confident that the officers would be in Bauchi to conduct free,fair and peaceful primaries.
“Lets be patient; we can afford to wait for one or two days to nominate a credible person for the position (governorship candidate).
” We are waiting for the national officers to arrive, as such APC members should exercise patience.
“The information reaching us from other places that election had been conducted, is not true,because the APC national officers are yet to arrive,” he said.
Also speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) from Azare, another aspirant, Capt.Bala Jibrin, said that he had to calm his supporters to remain at their various centers and wait for the APC national officers.
