Jalingo – Mr Timothy Anderifun, a member representing Ussa Constituency in the Taraba House of Assembly, has awarded scholarship to 200 students from his constituency studying in various tertiary institutions across the country.
Presenting the scholarship on Sunday in Jalingo, Anderifun said he was moved to reach out to the students given his personal experience during his school days.
According to him, the scholarship is to encourage them to work hard so as to become patriotic future leaders of the country.
“I want to encourage you to work hard, even in the face of economic hardships and insecurity facing the nation.
“Education remains the bedrock of any societal development and it is my belief that you all will succeed in your endeavours.
“It is my desire that in the nearest future, Ussa should have the highest number of professors, doctors, lawyers, engineers and other professionals in the state.
“In this regard, anyone of you who will graduate with a first class in any discipline will receive a special reward from me,” he said.
Anderifun urged those who did make the list to be patient, saying the 200 were just the first batch.
The lawmaker charged the students to continue to pray for their leaders and be constructive in their criticism, for a better Nigeria.
He admonished them to avoid taking to social media to insult leaders and spread false information, saying such was inimical to development.
In his comments, Mr Rimansikwe Hassan, the Chairman, Ussa Local Government Council, commended the lawmaker for promoting education in the area.
The chairman urged the students to take their studies seriously in order to guarantee a better future for themselves and the society.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr Rimamri Sangwayan appreciated the legislator for the gesture.
Sangwayan noted that apart from alleviating some of their challenges, the scholarship would spur them to take their studies more seriously.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event drew students of Ussa origin from universities, polytechnics, monotechnics and colleges of education across the country.
