CALABAR – Representative John Owan-Enoh, (PDP – Obubra/Etung) on Sunday decried the deplorable state of federal roads in Cross River.
Owan-Enoh, who expressed the concern in Calabar in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), blamed the situation on inadequate budgetary provisions and slow pace of budget implementation.
He said: “the greatest challenge we have had is failure to implement fully what was budgeted.
“Every day, I complain to the Minister of Finance and the Director of budget that federal roads in my state are in a terrible condition.” [eap_ad_1] He said that as a legislator, he had been making efforts to ensure that there was budget for the reconstruction of the Calabar-Ikom-Ogoja road.
“I am happy that N5 billion from the SURE-P fund was budgeted for the second section of the road starting from Mbuk Junction to Abuocheche in Ogoja axis in 2014.
“The Minister for Works, Mr Mike Onolememen, has assured me that the contract for the project would be awarded before the end of this month.
“I have equally urged him to ensure that the budgeted amount of money would be exhausted on the job before the end of the fiscal year,” he said.
He promised the people of the state that he would do his best possible to ensure that federal roads in the state received adequate attention. (NAN)
