Lagos – A Lagos lawmaker, Mr Setonji David on Friday urged Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode to help control flood and repair dilapidated infrastructure in schools in Badagry.
David (APC-Badagry II) at the Lagos State House of Assembly made this plea in a statement signed by the Assembly’s Head of Information, Miss Bose Lambo.
Lambo quoted David as saying that a visit to some of the major flood areas showed that the area had been neglected despite several “Save our Soul’’ letters written to government.
David, according to the statement, urged the state government to mandate the Ministry of Environment , through its drainage department, and SUBEB to address the problems.
“The Community recently wrote another letter titled “A pathetic situation in Akarapa Igborosun Community due to over-flooding.
”The Community in the letter craves the indulgence of the House to save their souls with utmost urgency required in order to avert the perennial flooding problem.
“The Community had traced the major cause of this menace to lack of drainage system along the main road that links the community from Mowo to Ado-Odo Igborosun and lack of drainage system, which made residents to lose properties worth millions,” he said.
According to the statement, the lawmaker said that the governor’s intervention would bring succor to the people living in the community.
He also said the Anglican Nursery and Primary school I and school II, established in 1945, among others in the area, are in pitiable condition, even after several appeals for repair and staffing.
“The situation in School I is a very pathetic one because students sit on bare floor and without teachers to attend to them.
