Lago – Mr Oludayo Fafunmi, a lawmaker in the Lagos State House of Assembly, says underdevelopment at the grassroots can be checked if constituents make local government chairmen accountable.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Fafunmi, representing Ifako Ijaiye 1 Constituency, made the remark during a town hall meeting in Ifako Ijaiye on Tuesday.
Fafunmi urged the people of the local government area to change their lukewarm attitude toward accountability of local government chairmen.
He said that issues of abandoned projects and bad roads would have been addressed if residents demanded answers from their local council chairmen.
“Ifako-Ijaiye residents, you have been too lenient with your chairmen, let them be accountable. If your local government chairmen are not forthcoming, ask questions, it is your right,’’ he said.
He promised that the issue of gas emission to a secondary school in the constituency would be reported to the commissioner for education.
Fafunmi also said that the call by residents for improvement in health care delivery, provision of adequate power supply, construction and rehabilitation of roads would be addressed.
The lawmaker said that the issues would be reported to the assembly to enable it include their demands in the 2016 budget.
He, however, rejected the call by commercial motorcycle operators to review the Lagos State Traffic Law.
Fafunmi warned constituents on the dangers of engaging the services of the commercial motorcycle operators on restricted areas.
