LAGOS – A 33-year-old lawyer, Charity Jibromah, was on Monday arraigned before a Tinubu Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, on a three-count charge of conspiracy, assault occasioning harm and stealing from her friend.
Jibromah, a resident of No. 4, Chevy View Estate, Ajah, Lagos, allegedly committed the offences at her residence on Nov. 27 at 9.15 a.m. with others still at large.
The prosecutor, SP Chidi Okoye, told the court that the lawyer unlawfully assaulted one Miss Uru Eke, her friend and housemate, by punching her repeatedly causing her serious bodily injuries.
Okoye said during the assault, Jibromah also stole Eke’s ipad tablet, jewellery and cash, all valued at N393,000.
He said that the fight was caused by the refusal of the accused to pay a debt of N150,000, which was allegedly owed the complainant.
According to him, the offences contravened Sections 171, 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 171 prescribes three years imprisonment for anyone found liable of assault, occasioning harm.
The accused, however, denied committing the offences.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.O Awogboro, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
Awogboro adjourned the case till Jan. 22, 2015 for mention. (NAN)
