The audio recorder on a surveillance camera at Lekki Toll Gate, which captured activities on October 20 when #EndSARS protesters were allegedly shot, was not activated.
Footage from the camera, which stopped working at about 8pm, has been tendered before a Judicial Panel of Inquiry set up by the Lagos State Government to probe the Lekki shootings as well as complaints of human rights abuses against members of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad.
Lekki Concession Company (LCC) Managing Director, Mr Abayomi Omomuwa, said the audio was inactive because the camera was primarily used for vehicular traffic purposes and not security.
Omomuwa, who spoke while testifying before the panel, said: “I can confirm that inside here is the video footage that our surveillance camera was able to record for the 20th of October.”
Soldiers have been accused of opening fire on #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki toll gate, an allegation the Nigerian Army has denied.
