President of the Nigerian Senate David Mark has said the federal government is intensifying effort to curtail the spread of the Ebola virus disease, EVD, to other states, hence the need for Nigerians to join hands to fight the deadly disease in the country.
David Mark made the disclosure in Akure, the state capital, when he led members of the 32 Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy Alumni Association to pay a visit to the palace of the Deji of Akure kingdom.
Senator Mark said the federal government was winning the war against the deadly disease and that it should not be left in the hands of government alone but rather be a collective responsibility.
He revealed that government has put in place various strategies to curtail the spread of the disease and appealed to all citizens to join hands in stemming its tide in the country.
Senator Mark added that the disease is dangerous to the people but government would not sleep until it flush Ebola out of the country.
“The Ebola Virus Disease is a national issue and is not particular about one organ of the government to fight.
“Even the federal government, National Assembly and the state governments and are all united in the fight against this deadly disease.
“All of us are working towards curtailing its spread and everyone has a role to play. If you know anyone who has contracted the disease, then, you must report such person. [eap_ad_2] He lauded the ongoing transformational projects of the Mimiko-led administration in the state, mostly at the capital city, and pleaded with the residents of the town to continually support the present government.
Responding, Princess Adetutu Adesida, the regent of Akure Kingdom, thanked the Senate president for visiting the state and for his support during the reign of her late father on the throne.
Princess Adesida applauded the efforts of the federal government for rising up to the challenges of the Ebola virus disease, EVD, and the Boko Haram insurgency in the country.
She appealed to the Senate president to help facilitate the request of the people of Akure on the implementation of the upgrading of the College of Health Sciences of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA, and other federal government projects in the state.
“I use this opportunity to appeal to the Senate president to use his great office to prevail on the National Assembly to help facilitate the upgrading of the College of Health Sciences at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA, to a full-fledged college of medicine with a modern teaching hospital and the dualization of the Ilesha-Akure-Ore road and also upgrading of the Akure Airport tower’s facilities”, she said.
The Senate president, who promised to convey the request of the regent to the president and members of the National Assembly, later took a tour round some projects initiated by Governor Olusegun Mimiko in the state.
Some of the projects toured by Senator Mark and his entourage included Neighborhood Market, mega primary schools, and communication and information technology located in the state capital.
Governor Olusegun Mimiko, who conducted the Senate president and members of his team round many of the projects, said they were part of the promises made by his government at inception.
Mimiko added that more projects would soon be carried out for the benefit of the people of the state. He vowed to complete all the projects before the expiration of his tenure.[eap_ad_3]
