Kiyawa (Jigawa) – The Kiyawa Local Government Area of Jigawa has said that it has distributed relief items to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) taking refuge in the council.
Malam Abdullahi Yakubu, the Information Officer for the council, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday.
Yakubu said that the items were provided by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
“Kiyawa Local Government has distributed relief materials to IDPs at different locations in the area.
“The items were provided by National Emergency and Management Agency,’’ Yakubu said.
He explained that the items were distributed through zonal officers of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Malam Musa Mada, in collaboration with the Welfare Officer of the council, Malam Garba Sarki.

The spokesman said the items were; 100 bags of maize, 123 bags of rice, 24 bags of sugar, 30 cartons of tin tomatoes,15 cartons of indomie noodles and three jerry cans of cooking oil.
The others were 400 mats, 200 blankets, 130 mosquito nets, and 100 pieces of textile materials.
He said that the gesture was to assist the internally displaced persons to mitigate their sufferings.
Yakubu said that the Secretary of the IDPs in the area, Malam Abubakar Sulaiman, commended NEMA and the local government council for the gesture.
NAN reports that hundreds of families were displaced by Boko Haram set in Borno and Yobe have been taking shelter in the area. (NAN)
