Opobo (Rivers)- The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate for Rivers, Dr Dakuku Peterside, said on Saturday that Opobo people were eager to vote in the local government elections in the state.
The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) is conducting elections in 22 of the 23 local government areas of the state .
Peterside told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at Opobo town, in Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area that the people had shown great enthusiasm to cast their ballot to elect council officials.
He said he had been accredited at Ward 3, Unit 6, Opobo/Nkoro Local Government and that the people now had opportunity to cast their vote.

“This is something they have been denied in the recent past,’’ he said.
Peterside said chairmanship candidates of various parties in Opobo were coming out strongly and trying to convince people to vote for them.
“For the councillors, it has been very competitive and it is a good development.
“It shows that democracy is taking roots and the people take democracy very seriously.
“They are beginning to see the fruits of democracy, they are beginning to see that people’s power can change things.
“A great example for them is the emergence of Buhari after three attempts, gives them hope that anybody can succeed at any point if only you can convince people on the need for change,’’ he said.
Peterside said he was optimistic that the election would produce leaders for the third tier of government for the state. (NAN)
