GUSAU – Staff of local government councils and primary school teachers in Zamfara would be paid the minimum wage from Oct. 2014 the state chapter of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has promised.
Mr Isiyaku Tsafe, the Vice Chairman of the union in the state, gave the promise in Gusau on Saturday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He said the union had succeeded in persuading the state government to pay the minimum wage to its work force.
He said that the union would redouble its efforts to ensure that staffs of local government council and primary school teachers were paid the minimum wage in October. [eap_ad_1] Tsafe appealed to workers who were yet to receive the minimum wage to remain calm and promised that the union would its best to ensure they receive the minimum wage.
He noted with satisfaction that the leadership of the NLC in the state had succeeded in fostering cordial relationship between the government and its work force.
He appealed to workers to cooperate with the union to enable it agitate for their rights.
“Although the struggle for workers’ welfare is our primary responsibility, we are also mindful of the economic situation of our state being the smallest state in terms of economic development,” he said. (NAN)
