Livestock expert urges agriculture minister to collaborate with private sector

Lagos –  A livestock expert, Mr Nnamdi Ifenkwe, on Wednesday urged the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, to collaborate with private sectors to actualise his policies.

Ifenkwe, who is the Project Manager, Nissi Agro Allied Services, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

He opined that government should also focus on collaborating with various associations and stakeholders in the sector to reposition the agriculture sector.

The expert said that despite partnering with the private sector, government needed to have some informal interactions with farmers to enable them executes government programmes effectively.

“Over the years I have observed that some farmers across the country will need some level of education to function better.

“The form of education is important as they are contemporary trend on livestock farming that is imbibed on the level of educational standard,’’ he said.

He said that government should have new investment on infrastructure to ensure that livestock farming become profitable.

“Investment in more recent incubators and other processing machines will automatically bring down the operational cost of venturing into livestock farming.

“The impact will be immeasurable as our country can effectively meet our domestic demand and in few years consider export to other neighboring country,’’ he said. (NAN)
