Lagos – The League Management Company (LMC) on Monday threatened to sanction FC Taraba of Jalingo for defaulting in the payment of its players’ salaries.
Salihu Abubakar, the Chief Operating Officer of LMC, said in a statement in Abuja that the club could suffer a six-point deduction for defaulting.
He said the LMC had formally charged FC Taraba for failing to meet financial obligation to its players.
“In line with the provision of the relevant rules, the LMC has ordered the club to pay all amounts due within 60 days,’’ Abubakar said in the statement.
It said FC Taraba players had been owed salaries for several months and this goes against LMC’s rules under Article B9.45.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the rule states that teams must adhere to the contract between them and players.
It further stipulates that where a club fails to pay players’ remuneration or entitlements for a period of more than 60 days, it shall be liable to such a deduction.
The rule further indicated that additional three points would be deducted for every 30 days for which the amount due remains unpaid.

The statement said the LMC would commence the deduction of the initial six points 60 days from the date of the notice, which was July 30.
It also noted that it was the second time in the 2014/2015 season the LMC had to exercise Summary Jurisdiction in a case of failure to meet financial obligation.
The first sanction was issued to Dolphins of Port Harcourt before the mid-season break.
This provision in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) 2014/15 Rules and Framework is the mechanism to ensure that clubs met their obligations to players with emphasis on remunerations.(NAN)
