Abuja (Sundiata Post) – The Labour Party (LP) U.S.A Chapter has reacted to the alleged stealing of donations by the suspended LP National Treasurer, Ms. Oluchi Oparah against the National Chairman of the party, Julius Abure, describing it as baseless and uninformed to say the least.
Sundiata Post recalls that at a recent media appearance, Oparah alleged that Abure and his cronies “while on a fundraising tour in the United States in August 2023, raised hundreds of thousands of dollars from the party’s diaspora community and that till date, he has not declared a single dollar to her or the National Working Committee (NWC), essentially stealing donations meant for the party’s development
While dismissing the Opara’h statement as figment of her own imagination, the group clarified that Mr Abure‘s visit to the United States was to acquaint and debrief with LP faithful and Obidients, and not for fundraising.
In a statement signed by the Chairman, Professor Eddie Oparaoji, made available to Sundiata Post, the group further clarifed that funds raised by the diaspora, during Mr. Abure’s visit were strictly designated for logistical purposes, including local travels, conferences, receptions, accommodations, and related expenses, and was entirely managed by the planning committee. Stressing that Mr Abure neither asked for nor received any funds from the LP USA Chapter.
The Labour Party USA Chapter stated that it remains committed to upholding the highest standards of transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct.
It therefore called upon all stakeholders to refrain from spreading false information and instead focus on advancing our shared objectives of serving the interests of the Nigerian people.
The LP U.S.A group also affirmed members unwavering support for their Presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi and his call for an independent audit of Labour Party’s finances and ascertain her true financial health.
It also urged the public to disregard the false narrative being peddled by individuals with vested interests and remain steadfast in commitment to building a stronger, more prosperous Nigeria.
