ENUGU – Coach Izuchukwu Okonkwo of Magic FC of Enugu on Thursday expressed regrets over his team’s early exit from the 2013/2014 Enugu State Federation Cup.
Magic was beaten 2-0 by Farmers Best Friends (FBF) FC on Monday at the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus venue of the competition.
Okonkwo told NAN in Enugu that his team ought to have kept their hope alive in the competition, adding, however, that the club was new and that it was their first outing in the competition.
“We did our best but my team would have overcome FBF to make their first competitive football in the state a memorable one.
“Yes, we lost to FBF and automatically out of the competition but that is never the end of this club; we are going home to come back better next year,” Okonkwo said.
He also said that he wanted to test the team with the Federation Cup as a new team which came into being in January.
“Had it been it was the state league, we would have hoped to make amend in the next round, knowing that we have another chance to play.
‘All the same, we are out to come back next year,” he said. (NAN)
