Ilorin – Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara, has called on traditional rulers in the state to maintain peace and order in their domains.
The governor made the call on Wednesday when traditional rulers from Kwara South paid him a visit at Government House, Ilorin.
The traditional rulers were led by the Olofa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi.
Ahmed assured the royal fathers that all cases of land disputes in the state would be amicably resolved.
“It is very critical to maintain peace and order for development to take place,’’ Ahmed said, and described dispute over land ownership as a “recurring thing.’’
He said that dialogue was essential in addressing land dispute.
The governor criticized those who use violence to settle land disputes, adding that using violence to resolve land disputes amounted to a criminal act.
He warned that anybody found culpable in any act of violence would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
On the request by the royal fathers for the state to pay the salaries of local government workers, Ahmed said the issue could only be resolved by the National Assembly
Earlier, the Olofa of Offa, Oba Gbadamosi, had appealed to the government to intervene to ensure the salaries of local government workers are paid
He also called for the implementation of findings and recommendations of enquiries into communal clashes arising from land disputes in the state. (NAN)
