Abuja (Sundiata Post) – Oyo State Governor, Oluseyi Makinde has charged the newly sworn-in permanent secretaries to thrive to be among those who do the work than to be in the group that takes credit.
He gave the advice on Thursday at the inauguration of the seventeen new permanent secretaries at government House in Oyo state.
According to him, “In the words of Indira Gandhi the first and only female Prime Minister of India that “There are two kinds of People, those who do the work and those who take the credit. Try to be in the first group; there is less competition there”. I want to use this opportunity to charge you all to see this appointment as a huge task which you must all live up to. Remember the saying that to whom much is given, much is surely expected. You must not be found wanting at any time.
The governor recalled that due diligence was not followed in the appointment of the17 permanent secretaries he inherited as they were hurriedly appointed towards the twilight of the last administration.
“When we came on board on May 29th 2019, we met on ground Seventeen (17) newly appointed Permanent Secretaries who were hurriedly appointed towards the twilight of the last administration. We noticed that due diligence was not followed; hence we decided to revert this appointments in order to allow for normal process to head sway. Parts of our considerations were seniority and diligence in service.
Makinde who recalled that his administration promised to look into the issue of those workers dismissed by the past administration, informed that the committee set up in this regard will soon submit its report.
“Let me also reiterate that this administration is never interested in witch-hunting anyone. We believe in doing things the right way. Anyone due for a position will be allotted such position without any influence or interference. We also believe that no one will be maltreated by our government. We kept to this promise by looking into the issue of those who were dismissed by the last administration. Presently, the Committee is in place and would submit their report very soon.
Makinde enjoined the permanent secretaries to be law abiding, dedicated, loyal and trustworthy. He also admonished them to shun every act that may jeopardize their career.
