KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s Foreign Ministry has summoned the U.S. ambassador to the country toexplain his comments on a controversial sedition law, a news report said on Thursday.
Malaysian Foreign Minister, Anifah Aman said the U.S. Amb. Joseph Yun was asked to explain his comments in which he said he was “puzzled’’ by the government’s decision to retain the colonial-era law.
“Any such unwarranted comments on decisions made by the government will be regarded as interfering in the country’s internal affairs.
“Malaysia calls on the U.S. government to respect the internal affairs of the country.
“Allow Malaysia the space, indispensable to all countries with maturing democracies, to ensure continued peace, security and stability,’’ Anifah added.
Last month, Prime Minister Najib Razak backtracked on his promise to scrap the sedition law. (dpa/NAN)
