Malnutrition: Association Urges Families, State Govts To Take Steps to improve household diet

Enugu   –    The National Complementary and Alternative Medicine Association (NACAMA) has called on families and state governments to design programmes aimed at improving household diet.
The National President of NACAMA, Prof. Peter Katchy, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Sunday.
Katchy said that the call became necessary in view of the need to stem malnutrition among Nigerian children.
He said that the menace of malnutrition was becoming evident especially among children aged two to six years old.
He added that malnutrition is already retarding the physical and mental growth of children affected by the condition.
Katchy said that it had become necessary for state governments to design educational and awareness programmes that would compel the vast majority of Nigerians to “eat right and drink right at the household level.
“State governments and other relevant agencies should develop and educate mothers and caregivers on ways to improve dietary provisions in families.
“This new dietary provisions should be localised and cheap to be attractive and realistic as possible to stem the growing tide of malnutrition especially among children between two and six years,’’ he said.
