Abuja – A Kubwa Grade 1 Area Court on Friday sentenced Geoffrey Jonathan to six months in prison for theft and Muktari Shuabu to nine months in prison for receiving stolen property.
The Judge, Mohammed Marafa, however gave Jonathan an option of N10,000 fine, while Shuabu got an option of N20,000 fine.
He warned the convicts to desist from committing crime and be of good behaviour.
Jonathan, a 20-year-old guard and Shuabu, 30-year-old businessman of Kubwa village, Abuja, were sentenced for joint act, theft and receiving stolen property.
The prosecutor, Babajide Olanipekun, told the court that the matter was reported by Ugwu Joseph and Alexander Annabel at Kubwa Police Station on Nov. 26.
He said Jonathan and one other at large connived and stole Annabel’s Mercedes truck engine valued at N340,000 and one Tiger Generator valued at N29,000.
He added that the said items were sold to Shuabu who had reasons to believe the items were stolen, adding that the offence contravened sections 79, 287 and 317 of the Penal Code.
Jonathan and Shuabu who pleaded guilty, begged for leniency.
