Lagos – A 20-year-old man, Ifeanyi Chimezie, was on Friday arraigned at a Surulere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly snatching a woman’s hand bag and assaulting her.
Chimezie, who is of no fixed address, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and assault.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Oluwagbenga Salami told the court that the accused unlawfully pushed down one Kemi Olufemi, who resides at No. 35 Zalon St, Orile Iganmu, and snatched her bag.
He said that the push caused harm to the victim on her knees and that while she screamed for help, the accused was pursued by some boys in the area and was arrested.
Salami said that the offences were committed at Doyin Bus-stop, Sari Iganmu, Orile, at about 10.10 p.m. on Jan. 6.

He said that the hand bag contained N22,000 and one LG phone valued at N35,000.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 285(5a) and 171 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2011.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.A. Famobiwo, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N10,000 with one surety who should be gainfully employed.
Hew adjourned the case till Jan. 25, 2016. (NAN)
