Man, 21, remanded for allegedly killing 2 men

LAGOS – A 21-year-old man, Taofeek Rasheed, who allegedly murdered two men by hacking them to death with a cutlass, appeared before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

The accused, who resides at Obale Street in Ijora-Badia, a Lagos slum, is facing a seven-count charge.

The Prosecutor, Cpl. Cyriacus Osuji, told the court that the murder happened on Dec. 27, 2014 at 4.30 a.m. at Sule Lane in Ijora-Badia.

He told the court that the accused and others, who had been earlier arraigned on Feb.3, unlawfully killed one Taiye and Wasiu by hacking them to death with a machete.

He explained to the court that the attack on the deceased persons was reprisal over a long-time dispute between area boys in the area.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]

Osuji further told the court that the accused also damaged a Nissan Blue Bird saloon car with Reg. No. AX 63 EPE, valued at N240, 000 property of one James Abifarin.

He said the accused also damaged a Mercedes Benz with Reg. No. AG 73 LND, property of one Dr Baraka Quadir valued, N174, 000.

According to him the accused also damaged a Nissan Primera station wagon with Reg. No. GGE 141 CA, valued N174, 000, property of one Saka Yusuf.

Osuji said that the offences contravened Sections 221, 231, 348 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to four out of the seven charges being bailable offences.

On the other three charges of murder, the plea of the accused was not taken.

Magistrate Yetunde Badejo-Okunsanya ordered that the accused should be remanded for 30 days at the Ikoyi Prisons, pending legal advice from the state’s Director of Public Prosecutions.

She adjourned the case till May 13 for mention. (NAN
