Lagos – A 22-year-old man, Seun Matthew, on Thursday appeared before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over alleged membership of a cult group and possession of a stolen phone.
Matthew, who resides at Apapa, pleaded not guilty to a three-count charge of conspiracy, belonging to a secret cult and stealing, over which he is being tried.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Dec. 3 at First Bank Round-about, Yaba area of Lagos.
He said that the accused had confessed to the police that he was a member of the ‘Eiye Confraternity’.
Ihiehie said that a stolen Samsung phone was found in the possession of the accused.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 42, 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case until Jan.14, for mention.
