Lagos – Bernard Osuji, 24, on Wednesday appeared in an Apapa Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for allegedly breaking into pharmacy shop through the ceiling and stole cash and CCTV decoder worth N173,000.
Osuji, a resident of Amukoko area of Apapa, Lagos, is standing trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and burglary.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Olusegun Kokoye told the court that the accused committed the offences on Sept. 7 at Iludun Street, Amukoko, Apapa, Lagos.
He said the cash and CCTV decoder belonged to Uzor Chidi.
Kokoye said the accused conspired with others, now at large, and broke into the shop of the complainant to commit the offences.
He said that Orji was caught by security guards who saw him and his alleged accomplices while trying to escape through the roof of the shop.
Kokoye said that while Orji’s alleged accomplices escaped with the money and CCTV decoder,Orji was apprehended and taken to the police station for further questioning.
The offences contravened Sections 287, 309 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.
Section 309 prescribes seven years imprisonment for burglary while Section 287 stipulates three-year jail term for stealing, if convicted.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr M.A Etti, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.
Etti adjourned the case until Dec.19 for further hearing.
