Ikeja – A 24-year-old employee, Chibuzor Emeagi, was on Friday in Lagos, arraigned in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing his employer’s N128,000.
Emeagi, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges of conspiracy and stealing brought against him.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Mojirade Edeme, alleged that the defendant and others still at large, committed the offences on Dec. 27, 2019, at Alausa, Ikeja.
Edeme said that the defendant stole the money belonging to 15:06 Club House.
“The defendant sold some drinks that day but refused to remit the proceeds into the complainant’s account, instead he fraudulently converted it to his own use.
“When the complainant came to the club the following day to collect the money, the defendant absconded and refused to pick up the complainant’s calls,’’ she added.
Edeme said that the defendant was eventually apprehended and handed over to the police.
The offences, Edeme said, violated sections 287(7) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that Section 287(7) prescribes seven years jail term for stealing from employer, while Section 411 attracts two years for conspiracy.
The Magistrate, Mrs O. A Aderibigbe, granted the defendant bail of N50, 000 with two sureties as part of the bail condition.
Aderibigbe said that the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case till Jan. 17 for continuation of hearing.
