Lagos – A 25-year-old man, Sunday Alex, who allegedly stole a motorcycle worth N260,000 from Mr Sunday Eboh, was on Wednesday brought before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
Alex, who resides in Apapa area of Lagos, is facing a charge of stealing to which he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Insp. Friday Inedu told the court that the accused committed the offence between Dec. 25, 2018 and Jan. 26, 2019 at Igbala Street, Amukoko, Apapa in Lagos.
Inedu alleged that the accused stole the motorcycle with registration number EKY 995 QF from the complainant, Eboh.
He said the complainant gave his motorcycle to the defendant on hire purchase and he agreed to remit N120, 000 weekly.
“The defendant only paid him once and bolted with the motorcycle.
“He decided to go to the defendant’s apartment, only to discover that he had travelled with his bike,” he said.
Inedu said that the complainant reported the case to the police and the defendant was arrested a month later.
The offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 prescribes a three-year imprisonment for stealing.
In his ruling, the Magistrate, Mr T.O Babalola, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until April 3.
