Kano –   The Kano Police Command on Friday arraigned Dini Rabiu, 25, before a Kano Senior Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing four set of traditional wears belonging to one Yahaya Hamza.

The defendant, a resident of Rijiyar Zaki Quarters, Kano is facing a one-count charge of theft.

The Prosecutor, Mr Yusuf Sale, told the court that the complainant, Hamza, reported the case at Rijiyar Zaki Police Division in Kano, on Aug. 12.

Sale quoted Hamza as alleging that the accused broke into his (complainant)’s apartment and stole four sets of clothes whose value was yet to be stated.

Sale further said that during investigation, the defendant confessed to have committed the offence, but that efforts to recover the clothes proved abortive.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge, and filed an oral bail application to prepare for his defence outside detention.

The prosecutor, however, rejected the bail plea, arguing that the accused was “elusive”, and could use the bail to jump justice.

In his ruling on the bail plea, Mr Aminu Fagge, the Senior Magistrate, dismissed the bail application and ordered the remand of the defendant in prison custody.

Fagge adjourned the case to Aug. 31, 2017 for trial. (NAN)
