Ikeja -. A tricycle operator, Sunday Amaje, 26, on Monday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, over alleged theft of a tricycle valued N665,000.
Amaje, who resides at No.17, Flat 2, Ijaye Housing Estate, Agege, Lagos, was charged with stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Victor Eruada, said that Amaje committed the offence on May 6 at Isheri Garage, Pen Cinema, Agege, Lagos.
He said that the defendant stole a tricycle valued at N665,000, property of Mrs Florence Aigbe.
Eruada noted that Amaje collected the tricycle on hire purchase from Aigbe.
“After the defendant collected the tricycle, he called the complainant later, saying that the tricycle had been stolen by thieves,’’ the prosecutor said.
He said that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 prescribes three years imprisonment for stealing.
The Magistrate, Mrs M. I. Dan-Oni, granted the defendant a bail of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Dan-Oni adjourned the case until June 4 for mention.
