LAGOS – A 27-year-old man, Onyekachi Nnaji, who allegedly broke into the shop of one Nnamdi Peters and stole goods valued at N5.1 million on Friday appeared before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
Nnaji, a resident of Satellite Town area of Lagos, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, burglary and stealing.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Kingsley Jackson, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Sept. 3 at Shop F441, Article Market, Abule Oshin, Satelite Town, Lagos.
He said that the accused conspired with others now at large to steal 427 cartons of soap valued at N5.1 million, property of Nnamdi Peters. [eap_ad_2] Jackson said that the accused and his accomplices was caught by a security guard while stealing cartons of soap in the night.
“Nnaji was apprehended by the security guard while others escaped,’’ the prosecutor stated.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 285, 306 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Section 306 prescribes a five-year jail term for anyone who enters a residence with the intent to commit felony while Section 285 stipulates three years imprisonment for stealing.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr Mukaila Fadeyi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till Oct. 10 for mention.(NAN)[eap_ad_3]
