LAGOS – A 27-year-old man, John Shaibu, who allegedly stole five bags of cement valued at N8,750, was on Tuesday brought before an Ojokoro Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Shaibu, whose address was not given, is facing a two-count charge of burglary and theft.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Lugard Ahonle, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Aug. 23 at U-Turn Bus-Stop, Abule-Egba, Lagos, at 11.30 p.m. [eap_ad_1] “Shaibu and others now at large conspired and stole five bags of Elephant Cement valued at N8,750,
“Shaibu was apprehended by members of a vigilance group while others in the gang escaped,” he said.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 285 and 307 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Section 307 provides that anyone convicted of burglary is liable to seven years imprisonment.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Layinka subsequently granted the defendant a N50,000 bail, with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case to Nov. 11 for mention. (NAN)
