Badagry (Lagos State) – A 30-year-old man, Mohammed Umar, was on Monday arraigned by the Police at a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged reckless driving and malicious damage.
Umar, whose address is unknown, is standing trial on a two-count charge of reckless driving and malicious damage, for which he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, ASP Clement Okuoimose, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Sept. 12, at about 2:30 p.m before CCECC Ltd., Trade Fair Complex, along the Badagry Expressway.
Okuoimose said that the defendant allegedly drove one Howo truck with registration number GWA 549 YR on the highway in a reckless manner without regards to other road users.
He also said that the defendant caused malicious damage to 16 precast elements, property of CCECC Nigeria Ltd., valued N3.2million.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 51 and 317 of the Road Traffic Laws of Lagos State, 2018.
The chief magistrate, Mr Fadaunsi Adefioye, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500, 000.00 with two sureties in like sum.
Adefioye adjourned the case until Oct. 18 for mention. (NAN)
