Man, 30, Faces N1.5m Tricycle Theft Charge

Lagos, – A 30-year-old man, Andrew Victor, on Friday appeared before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a tricycle worth N1.5 million.

Victor, whose address was not provided, is standing trial on a charge of stealing to which he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, ASP Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant committed the offence in September 2022, at Yemken Plaza, Faith Bus Stop, Egbeda, Idimu Road, Lagos.

Aigbokhan said the defendant stole a tricycle with registration No. MUS 789 QL, belonging to Lapo Microfinance Bank.

“After the Microfinance bank purchased the tricycle for the defendant, he disappeared, until he was caught and brought to court,” the prosecutor said.

He said the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section stipulates threes’ years jail term for stealing.

The Magistrate, Miss K. A. Ariyo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Ariyo ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and one of them must be a blood relative of the defendant.

She adjourned the case until April 17 for mention. (NAN)
