LAGOS – An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday remanded a 31-year-old man, Chichebe Ogbonna, in prison custody over the theft of a generator set valued at N14,000.
Ogbonna, a bus conductor, is facing a two-count charge of burglary and stealing.
The Magistrate, Miss Abiodun Akinde, ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison after he pleaded guilty to the charge.
Akinde thereafter adjourned the case to May 4 for facts and sentencing
Earlier the prosecutor, Insp. Chinalo Uwadione told the court that the offence was committed on Jan. 16 at 2.20 p.m., at Ipori Police barracks on Funsho Williams Ave., Lagos.
According to him, the defendant unlawfully carted away the generator which was on the balcony of the apartment of Mr Seamus Osanebi.
He said that luck, however, ran out on Ogbonna as some neighbours of the complainant who saw him disconnect and carry the generator apprehended him.
“The accused entered into Osanebi’s balcony on Jan. 16 at about 2.20p.m., and removed a generator valued at N14,000.

“He was apprehended after some of the complainant’s neighbours within the barracks raised an alarm and subsequently seized the stolen generator from him”, the prosecutor said.
Uwadione said that the offences contravened sections 278 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, who pleaded guilty to the charge, asked for mercy.
“Please help me; I came to Lagos to look for my brother at Otto but I did not find him. I was just struggling to feed,” Ogbonna said.(NAN)
