Ikeja – A 36- year-old man, Jimoh James, who allegedly robbed a woman of N265,000 at gun-point, was on Friday in Lagos remanded at Kirikiri Prisons by an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
The Magistrate, Mrs Y. O Ekogbulu, however, refused to take the plea of the accused.
She said he should be kept behind bars pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The accused, who resides at Apapa, Ajegunle, Lagos, is being tried for robbery and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Sgt Adetutu Sanusi, told the court that the accused committed the offences on March 17 at Ikorodu-Ijebu-Ode Road, Lagos.
She said that the accused and two other persons still at large conspired to rob Mrs Chinwendu Njoke of her N265,000 valuables.
“The accused stole one IPhone 6 valued at N160,000, itel phone N25,000, wristwatch N40,000 and also used her sim card to withdraw her N40,000 from her account,” she said.
Sanusi said that the accused stopped the complainant’s car by waving a gun at her.
“The complainant stopped her car when the accused pointed a gun at her threatening to shoot if she refused to stop.
The prosecutor said the accused collected her valuables and her sim card.
“He used the complainant’s airtel sim card to transfer N40,000 from her bank account to his own account.
“The accused was later tracked through his bank account and was arrested,” the prosecutor said.
The offences contravened Sections 287 and 297 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015(Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 297 prescribes 21 years imprisonment for robbery while section 287 attracts three years for stealing.
The case was adjourned until May 17 for mention.
