LAGOS – A 41-year-old, Kingsley Egbejule, who allegedly attempted to kidnap a three-year-old child, was on Tuesday charged before a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
The accused, who claims to be a resident of Abudu Ologbo in Edo, is facing a two- count charge of conspiracy and attempted kidnap.
The prosecutor, ASP Godwin Anyanwu, told the court that the accused committed the offences on May 29.
He said Egbejule strolled into Pentagon Nursery and Primary School located at No. 37, Apapa Road in Ebute Meta, and attempted to steal a three-year-old child (names withheld). “He claimed to have been sent by the child’s mother to bring him to church,” Anyanwu said.
The prosecutor said the accused was apprehended after a vigilant school teacher accosted him and raised an alarm.
Anyanwu noted that the offences contravened sections 269 and 409 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
Egbejule, however, denied the charge.
In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs Yewande Aje-Afunwa, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The accused may be sentenced to a 10-year jail term on conviction.
The case has been adjourned to Oct. 7 for mention. (NAN)[eap_ad_3]
