Sango-Ota – A 50-year-old man, Akibu Adeniran, was on Friday brought before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun for allegedly defrauding a man of N1.2 million.
Adeniran, who lives at No. 14 Ogunkola Lane, Iyana-Ilogbo, Ota, is facing a two-count charge of fraud and obtaining money under false pretences.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused committed the offences on March 23 at about 11.00 a. m. at Osuke area, Ota.
Gbesi said that the accused collected N1.2 million under the pretext of selling a plot of land to the complainant, Daramola Ojo.
“The accused converted the money to his personal use instead of fulfilling the agreement between the two parties,” he said.
He said the offences contravened Sections 390 (9) and 419 of the Criminal Code, Law of Ogun, 2006.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate S. S. Shotayo, however, granted the accused N200,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
He ordered that the sureties should reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.
The case was adjourned untill Jan. 30 for further hearing.
