LAGOS – A 56-year-old businessman, Alhaji Yusuf Baruwa, on Tuesday in Lagos urged a Yaba Customary Court to dissolve his 30-year-old marriage to his 51-year-old wife, Bukurat Baruwa.
Yusuf, the petitioner`, had alleged before the court that Bukurat and their five children

were trouble makers and had been giving him a tough time.
“My Lord, my wife and my five children have continued to make life unbearable for me,” Yusuf said.
He alleged that on several occasions he had misunderstandings with his wife she would not be submissive to him or take corrections.
“I’m in this court to seek divorce of the marriage with my wife because of the trouble she and our children had been putting me through.
“ I have been managing the problem since but we have not been able to reach a headway and life have become unbearable for me.
“They are always very quarrelsome, while the children, in particular, are not remorseful about their bad attitudes,’’ he told the court.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that both Yusuf and Bukurat , a businesswoman, live on Lagos Island.
He also told the court to dissolve their union on the grounds of irreconcilable differences that had begun to manifest themselves since July 10, 2011.
The petitioner also told the court that he was tired of the marriage and wanted his freedom.
Bukurat, the respondent, in her testimony, told the court that she was the second out of nine wives, adding that she had been taking care and training the 19 children from the nine marriages.
She said this was because all the other eight wives had packed out of the house.
Bukurat added that her husband used to come home with different women.
Every time I reported him to his family, they would be begging me not to pack out of my matrimonial home, she said.
“My husband does not pay the children’s school fees; he does not provide feeding allowance and house rent.
“I am responsible for the welfare of my children and step-children as well as providing money for their feeding.
“Anytime I asked him for allowance for the family, he would beat me up ,” she said.
NAN reports that Bukurat’s counsel pleaded with the court to give him time to mediate between them with a view to resolving their differences.
The president, Mr Rahim Dawodu, urged the petitioner’s family to settle the matter saying, the marriage was too old to be dissolved.
He adjourned the case till March 26. (NAN)
